Observation of the Day—Seeing the Individual as Individual in Bhutan

When I am in Bhutan I more easily, notice and address, each person as a separate and unique entity as I move through my day. When I am home I am conscious of needing to remind myself to individuize (made up word) my interactions when I am out and about to make sure I am interacting purposefully with each person—the grocery store worker, person behind the counter at the coffee shop, or at the bank. In Bhutan, I pause, address, then interact with ease—being mindful in this way feels natural here. Yes, I have surmised further why this is so. But for today, I’ll leave you, an individual, with just that. Tashi Delek from Bhutan.

Finding Magic in the Muck

My article on Tour of the Dragon in Tourism Council of Bhutan’s magazine. I had a chance to catch up with His Royal Highness on last years tour of the dragon and what he remembered most was my offering him a potato chip while climbing Dochula pass. As we arrived at Tashi again this year, as it is now our home base before […]

The (unexpected) Power of Women in Adventure

After riding a wave of gratitude and excitement from the book launch and signing of Dirty Inspirations at Bookshop Santa Cruz, the palpable buzz from the premiere of Crossing Bhutan at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, as well as then sharing the poignant “lessons” from my book with a cutting edge start up company in Los Gatos, I’ve had a moment to take a short breather (before I head to Bhutan) to reflect on something completely unexpected that arose at our film premier. Wow! When creating and then executing Expedition Bhutan, our human powered journey across Bhutan while shooting a documentary film of their concept of Gross National Happiness, neither I nor anyone on my otherwise all-male team had […]
