The Gift of Travel—Bhutan

Its been 5 years since I first set foot in the iconic country of Bhutan. Significant events have transpired since that first life-changing day; Expedition Bhutan experienced the entire country west to east, a film was made of our journey—Crossing Bhutan, an international marathon and half marathon was created continues to thrive, two Bhutanese Expedition Bhutan team members have visited the U.S., fundraising efforts have supported women entrepreneurs in the country as well as the Bhutan Olympic Committee, and I’ve twice ridden one of the most grueling one-day cycling events on the planet. Over these past 5 years I’ve spent over a year living and volunteering in the country, making life-long friends while co-creating ever more initiatives which will help the country grow […]

Ocean to Mountains to Ocean—Quickly

After helping some open water swimmers get psyched about the ocean on Saturday, I headed up for a quick/big hike in Yosemite. Leaving the Valley early morning I headed up the John Muir Trail to top out in the afternoon in Tuolumne Meadows. I loved the huge/tough push, the heady granite visuals and pristine mountain lakes. Rugged hiking up high never gets easier—given that I have not been doing much hiking specifically, I could really feel the effort in my feet about 6 hours in. Yet the allure for it all just seems to continually deepen. From the ocean, then in close to triple digit heat in the mountains while pushing hard amidst the granite waves, it was sweetly pleasurable to […]

CAMINO LOVE! – Video of Mountain Biking the Camino de Santiago Trail

Thank you Ruben Parma for putting together this video of your trip and our time together mountain biking the 500 mile, Camino de Santiago trail. Its perfect, as it captures the essence of our experience. Video starts with Ruben’s initial ride on the Camino a while back, before coming back for the second half, which is when we crossed trails. After we had been on the trail about a week, we met up with Ruben in the mountains in Rabanal when we invited him to finish our too large plate of pasta. We were joined at the hubs to the end and inclusive of Mark Sullivan whom we met a couple days later. LOVE his intro of us with the song, California Girls. Note […]

Connection

What a gift when someone you don’t know easily connects with something you’ve deeply shared. I found the below review on amazon about my book, Dirty Inspirations, and am so grateful for this kindred seeker—someone who deeply ‘got’ the premise(s) for my writing this book. Since mom’s death I’ve been kinda numb, sad and quasi-checked out and this connection instantly drew me back in to life’s loveliness. Thank you, thank you, to my intrepid reviewer. May your trails be windy, crooked and full of questions. “There aren’t enough superlatives to describe the insights Terri Schneider shares into the minds of endurance athletes in Dirty Inspirations. Schneider begins in her days as a IronMan triathlete covering a swim, bike and race course […]

View from the Bhutan International Half Marathon Start

Much to Karma Dorji’s dismay (because we were quite busy) I did pull out my Nikon to get a couple shots from the starting area. I believe his exact words were, “Seriously, are you going to do the tourist thing NOW?!” – Indeed, and for your pleasure…

Bhutan International Marathon (BIM) hits Record Breaking Participation While Supporting all Factions of its Country

In 2014 the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) and I launched the first Bhutan International Marathon and Half Marathon (BIM) in the gorgeous Punakha and Gasa Dzongkhag’s (regions). That first year we exceeded our expectations by getting almost 40 International participants and a total of 250 runners for both the marathon and half marathon. The next year we doubled international participant numbers with over 75 runners while totals for both races remained at mid 200’s. While registrations are still pouring in for 2016, we already have over 130 International participants registered!! (while Bhutanese runners are still registering at the last minute).  Here is why this is so incredibly exciting to me: There has never been a sporting event where this many […]
