Big Agnes Copper Spur 2 Platinum Tent

With all the chat that many ultralight 2-person tents these days are not quite roomy enough for 2 people, I was pleasantly surprised with the shoulder, foot and head room in this tent. Since I have never purchased an ultralight 2-person tent (I tend to fly solo), the weight of this beauty was breathtaking—a mere 2 lb 5 oz—partly because of that, the price was also breathtaking ($600). Its tough to imagine that tent material this light weight will keep out the elements but the rain and snow pummeling we got on its first night out, left us cozy and dry inside. The only infrequent drip we got was because the weight of the snow and water accumulation on the […]

Runners Workout Handbook

Observing the runners this past weekend at the Bhutan International Marathon and Half Marathon I was reminded, yet again, that some runners arrive at start lines ready to execute effectively and well, some don’t. I love creating new tools to help the latter, so that their next experience can be optimal! Here is info on one of my latest: Whether you run competitively, to get fit or to stay fit, The Runner’s Workout Handbook is your complete guide to finding innovative and engaging running plans to make the most of your training time, providing a wide variety of workouts to keep you challenged and motivated, all while improving your performance. Expert and multi-sport coach Terri Schneider combines skill training with variations […]

Being Fit Rocks! Big Holiday Specials

Being Fit Rocks!        I’ve had the privilege of coaching hundreds of athletes over the past 30 years and am continually inspired by how their choice to be fit positively affects their lives. That influential effect isn’t relevant to how fast or skilled an athlete is. Though it is related to their choice to maintain a daily consistent baseline of fitness—at which ever level they choose. Observing this, while consistently practicing my own diverse fitness program, has motivated me to publish more tools for athletes and aspiring athletes at all levels; whether that means offering coaching programs, how-to-books, or by sharing inspiring stories to motivate and encourage. I feel so strongly that Being Fit Rocks our lives in every way, that this holiday I want to offer you and […]

Putting Swimmers Workout Handbook to Use

Today I was coaching my usual noon, masters swim workout at Simpkins Swim Center. As I was writing the workout up on a white board for the swimmers to view, a regular Tuesday swimmer jested with me, “Isn’t that cheating?!” I was writing down a workout taken from a book I was looking through. “Nope,” I countered, “This is a book I wrote of swimmers workouts!” That said, my book, Swimmers Workout Handbook, is designed for recreational or competitive swimmers, triathletes and coaches to use. On the pool deck. Or when writing up your swim workouts for your club, team or swimmers. No cheating with this Handbook, just a smart way to give effective, interesting workouts every day. So have at it! A perfect […]

Sierra to the Sea

Kudos to the Almaden Cycle Touring Club (ACTC) for hosting the 30th Annual Sierra to the Sea Bike Tour this past week—a 450 mile/7-day ride across our beautiful state. About 120 riders plus staff enjoyed an impressive 7-day route from South Lake Tahoe to San Francisco on some of the most scenic and historic backroads our state has on offer. Each day of tough riding wound through little known towns, up memorable climbs and with views that remind us why we spend so much money to live in this state. I felt giddy, like a kid at Christmas each time we headed down yet another stretch of backroad I had never ridden. After sitting in a frigid river or swimming […]

Ocean to Mountains to Ocean—Quickly

After helping some open water swimmers get psyched about the ocean on Saturday, I headed up for a quick/big hike in Yosemite. Leaving the Valley early morning I headed up the John Muir Trail to top out in the afternoon in Tuolumne Meadows. I loved the huge/tough push, the heady granite visuals and pristine mountain lakes. Rugged hiking up high never gets easier—given that I have not been doing much hiking specifically, I could really feel the effort in my feet about 6 hours in. Yet the allure for it all just seems to continually deepen. From the ocean, then in close to triple digit heat in the mountains while pushing hard amidst the granite waves, it was sweetly pleasurable to […]
