Big Agnes Copper Spur 2 Platinum Tent
With all the chat that many ultralight 2-person tents these days are not quite roomy enough for 2 people, I was pleasantly surprised with the shoulder, foot and head room in this tent. Since I have never purchased an ultralight 2-person tent (I tend to fly solo), the weight of this beauty was breathtaking—a mere 2 lb 5 oz—partly because of that, the price was also breathtaking ($600). Its tough to imagine that tent material this light weight will keep out the elements but the rain and snow pummeling we got on its first night out, left us cozy and dry inside. The only infrequent drip we got was because the weight of the snow and water accumulation on the outside, pressed the fly into the tent body. This can be alleviated by my being more astute at staking out the side vestibules (I was not).
The features I love most about this tent are the reasons we got it: Light weight, two side doors, two side vestibules, predominance of mesh on tent body (I prefer no fly and I like to see the sky), plenty of sitting height, as well as a couple of perks, such as the four inside pockets and additional tabs for hanging gear and laundry.
Overall I’d give the tent 4.5 stars. The half star subtracted is due to a couple of finicky wet zippers. As of yet, I haven’t met a perfectly smooth and highly functioning zipper on an ultralight tent. So until “they” sort this out, this ultralight athlete will remain a smidge dissatisfied. Overall, right now, I would highly recommend this tent. Lets see how it withstands multiple+ days on the trail.
