Drum as Teacher

Today I purchased a very large drum, just like the ones that are used regularly by monks in Bhutan. It then took several hours to sort out how I was going to pack and ship the drum, handle and base, to the U.S. I went into this process with my ‘American mind,’ working hard to summons the quickest and most effective means to sort all of this out, all the while expecting impeccable customer service along the way. But it is uncommon for Bhutan to succumb to my incessant attachment to American ways.
So the entire process became a lesson in patience, compassion and gratitude, and involved multiple humans and a lot of laugher. The ultimate celebration of our success involved, a cup of tea. Thank you Yangki Tshering for always emulating the possibility of the kind, patient yet efficient human. My ‘drum experience’ was an inspiration. Now lets see if my coveted drum shows up in tact…
