The New Year: Brief Reflection on What Is

As the New Year passes, most of us are optimistically motivated to generate fresh goals moving forward. Since I tend to be an advocate of endeavoring in this process consistently throughout the year, my thoughts through this past holiday and new year strayed more so toward whats right in front of me now—what already is. Here are just a quick couple of ‘what is’ that come to mind.

I have a large, loving family of which I am the youngest sibling. By odds, large families have a larger propensity for challenging stuff to go down at any given time and mine has been tested as of late. Within the tough stuff we get to decide how we will be in it, how we will support, or not, the role we will take, the place we will stand amidst the struggle. This is an opportunity to not only get to know my siblings on a deeper level and to define, yet again, how I will be in the face of tough stuff, but also to affirm my commitment level to my family.

In celebrating over 25 years of coaching and consulting endurance athletes, what I have now is not only a desire to create a much richer experience with each client than ever before, but that I am more deeply open to seeing inspiration in each person I work with. The world can be a unyieldingly crazy place but I am so fortunate to work with people who make a big difference within their own lives, families and communities.

In a couple of weeks I’ll be heading back to Bhutan again to help the Bhutan Olympic Committee produce the Bhutan International Marathon as well as to host a group of international competitors who will be participating in the event. When I first set foot in Bhutan two years ago while embarking on Expedition Bhutan I had a feeling this special place would find a consistent residence in my heart. As this next journey in the country will mark my seventh month living there, I’m now certain Bhutan has found an everlasting friend.

What are you living in now that you’ve been reflecting on?
